Consider Martha Manuel an example for everyone working under Gov. Bobby Jindal. Manuel was fired Wednesday from her job as executive director of the state Office of Elderly Affairs - one day after she sharply criticized plans in Jindal's budget to merge the OEA with the larger Department of Health and Hospitals, according to the Associate Press. Manuel told lawmakers on Tuesday that Jindal's plan would damage the state's ability to see to the needs of Louisiana's elderly population, a sentiment that has been echoed by some leaders of parish councils on aging.

The Jindal administration argues that the merger will eliminate duplication of services and promote efficiency at the same hearing on Tuesday, and followed up Wednesday by merging Martha Manuel with the ranks of the unemployed.
