Santorum heads to Lafayette Tuesday

by Leslie Turk

The former Pennsylvania senator is bringing his presidential campaign to the Lafayette Hilton Tuesday for a 6-9 p.m. rally and fundraiser. The Lafayette Hilton on Pinhook Road will be the site for a Tuesday evening rally and fundraiser for Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum. The former U.S. senator from Pennsylvania is making a stop in Lafayette ahead of the March 24 primary.

The rally, which is open to the public, will be at 7 p.m., according to The Times-Picayune. A flier for the fundraiser - $2,500 per person "limited to the first 100 responses" - indicates it's from 6 to 9 p.m. A rep for Santorum's campaign did not immediately respond to a request for clarification on the time and location of the two events.

The T-P reports that the fundraiser is being organized by Lake Charles energy executive William J. Dore. The paper notes that Dore is a top financial angel for the campaign who gave $1 million to the pro-Santorum Red, White and Blue super PAC in January, and a second check for an as-yet undisclosed amount in February.

Local real estate developer Will Mills is co-hosting the fundraiser.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich plan to visit Louisiana before the primary as well.
