State lawmakers are gathered in Baton Rouge for the start of a 2012 session that will likely be dominated by two of Gov. Bobby Jindal's legislative imperatives: education reform and changes to the retirement system for state employees.
Nearly 1,600 bills are slated to begin their rotation in various committees in the Senate and House on Tuesday, none bigger than House Bill 1 - the $25.5 billion budget submitted by the governor that includes more attempts at privatizing services traditionally handled by state government.
