Colorful Holi Festival Saturday

by Dominick Cross

According to the Acadiana Indian Association's website, Holi Festival is held here for all those reasons we live here. Chalk up another reason Lafayette is a really Cool Town.

The inaugural Lafayette Holi Festival was held last year in Girard Park and was a fun and literally colorful event enjoyed by all who participated, which of course in the long-held tradition of festivals in our part of the world, included the whole family.

And come Saturday, 11 a.m., in Girard Park, the Second Lafayette Holi Festival is set to be held.

Holi came to Acadiana, the heart of the Cajun country, for a reason.

And according to the Acadiana Indian Association's website, Holi Festival is held here for all those reasons we live here. Here's an explanation from the site: "This region, unlike any other region in the US, has its own music, food, and dance. There are more festivals celebrated in Acadiana than there are weeks in a year. Lafayette Holi adds another festival to this festive place.

"Lafayette Holi is a 1/2 day event combining Indian and Cajun spirit. Like all Cajun Festivals, this is a family friendly festival, catering to all age groups. However, be prepared for your inner child to spring out, and enjoy the simple pleasure of coloring others, both, friends and strangers."
