In the latest dispatch from the frontier of apologetics, a close friend of the shooter in Florida's Trayvon Martin killing is defending his BFF's apparent use of the racial slur "coon" during the incident that ended in Martin's death by equating it with the use of the term "coonass" in Louisiana.

In the latest dispatch from the frontier of apologetics, a close friend of the shooter in Florida's Trayvon Martin killing is defending shooter George Zimmerman's apparent use of the racial slur "coon" - Zimmerman is white/Hispanic; Martin was black - during the incident that ended in Martin's death by equating it with the use of the term "coonass" in Louisiana.

Speaking to MSNBC's Chris Matthews earlier this week, Zimmerman ally Joe Oliver suggests in a fanciful leap of logic that because some in Cajun Country consider "coonass" to be a term of endearment - opinions vary on this - that Zimmerman's use of the slur "coon" wasn't as 99.99 percent of Americans of any color would understand it, proving in a breath that melanin does not mean sensitivity to racism.
