Trending: Pretty Little Things

Spring brings back the girls.

Boho is the look that just won’t die. Around here we don’t mind. But for the preppy girls there is good news — the new boho is getting increasingly polished.

The hippie chic thing is still a grungy slice of belled pants (and who doesn’t love a flower crown come Festival time?), but a new wave of flirty rompers and infusion of girly color and demure prints make the beloved free-loving look a bit more refined.

“Printed shorts and cute flowy tops will be huge this spring and summer,” says Vertage Manager Sloane Guidry.

The gal who also recently launched the precious lifestyle blog Sincerely Sloane says the brighter the better.

“Hot pink will be huge,” she says.

Fringe returns yet again in everything from footwear and bags to tops and dresses. Julie Rabalais of Jewelie’s says it’s all about the Bermuda short: “cool, stylish and versatile.” The easy one-piece is still strong with printed super-short rompers, midlength jumpsuits and chic nighttime takes on all of the above.

“If you are fashion forward and on trend, a silky black gaucho jumpsuit is perfect for date nights and cocktail events,” says Alicia Abdalla Mouton of Brother’s on the Blvd.

Mouton also points to matching separates, and for everyday, it’s all getting distressed. Amy Johnson of Little Town says ripped-up boyfriend jeans are a hot sell, and nothing beats a fresh pair of white pants or jeans for night come summertime.

In footwear say goodbye to sleek shapes.

“I think it’s the flatform sandals. Big, chunky sandals,” says Shoe La La Manager Katelyn Miller. “The ones that have the sporty white bottom and the thick espadrille bottoms.”

For the kids, the peachy coral we love in womenswear is huge, according to Kiddeaux owner Kelly Haydel.

“Still funky and bohemian,” she says.

And no springtime would be complete around here without a dash of linen and that certain something that screams southern charm in the midst of brutal heat.

“White linen pullovers and chino shorts with seersucker accents are all staples to carry you through multiple seasons,” Mouton says.
