Taco Sisters has confirmed to ABiz that it will open a second location in the old Formosa restaurant on Johnston Street across from Social Southern Table.

“It is happening,” says Lynn Jenkins, who serves as Taco Sisters’ kitchen manager and is one of the restaurant’s owners. “We’re hoping to be up and going by the beginning of the new year.”

Across from Social Southern Table and Pete’s, the new location will offer the same fresh, healthy food, but with the welcomed addition of fresh margaritas, cold beer, indoor seating and extended dinner hours. Everything from the restaurant's signature menu will be served up and available from its drive thru.

For 10 years, the concept created by original Taco Sisters Molly and Katy Richard and later sold has operated at 407 Johnston St. in Freetown.

Four years ago, the sisters quietly took on a major shareholder, Clare Zimmer. Her son, Brendan Akers of Pamplona Bar and Tapas, took over as managing partner, and Jon Jenkins, longtime food purveyor, became operating partner.

Jon's wife and original Taco Sisters chef, Lynn Jenkins became kitchen manager/partner, and Brett Hall, a Texas Culinary Academy of Austin graduate, soon joined the team. Together, they have expanded the Freetown location and launched Taco Sisters Mobile from a 1957 Whale-Tale Airstream.
