‘Berry lawyers plead to welshing on taxes

With apologies to the Welsh

A pair of New Iberia attorneys face up to a year in prison each, restitution and fines after pleading guilty to failing to pay taxes for 2007-09.

According to U.S. Attorney Stephanie A. Finley’s office, James Lynden Burton and Lucretia Pecantte-Burton were partners in the Pecantte-Burton & Burton law firm who provided tax preparation and general legal services for which they were routinely paid in cash by clients. Federal officials say the pair filed delinquent returns “after learning that they were under criminal investigation by the Internal Revenue Service.”
