Gov. Bobby Jindal this week signed into the last of 438 bills that emanated from the 2011 legislative session. Eighteen of the bills were vetoed by the governor including, close to home, the creation of a new levee district in Vermilion Parish.

The products are said to be hallucinogenic and raised the alarm of government and health officials several months ago following a spike in calls to poison hotlines by individuals said to be experiencing suicidal thoughts as a result of ingesting or smoking the products. State officials banned their sale in January. HB 12 adds the chemical compounds in the bath salts to the list of controlled dangerous substances.
