Approximately 300 architects and their guests are expected to attend the Louisiana Chapter of the American Institute of Architects' annual design conference at the Lafayette Hilton and Towers Sept. 27-28.
Approximately 300 architects and their guests are expected to attend the Louisiana Chapter of the American Institute of Architects' annual design conference at the Lafayette Hilton and Towers Sept. 27-28.
Local architect Wayne Domingue, the conference chair, calls the event an opportunity for the local architectural community to showcase the rich cultural opportunities that Lafayette can offer. Special events will include a preconference mixer at Acadian Village, a tour of four downtown architectural firms, including Abell+Crozier+Davis, Architects Southwest, David Courville Architect, and MBSB, a showcase of the Acadiana Center for the Arts, and an awards banquet that will recognize outstanding design projects. Photographs of this year's entries will be on display Thursday-Friday in the Hilton lobby.
The conference will also include a products show and presentations. In addition there will be professional programs, the annual meeting with the election of state officers, a tour of River Ranch and a tour of four sustainably designed projects in the Lafayette area. The activities will culminate with tailgating at the UL versus Florida International University football game at Cajun Field on Saturday.
Lafayette architect Mark Stielper, the president of the state organization, emphasizes that this year's conference is geared to address not only established practitioners but also emerging professionals who may be licensed for less than 10 years, as well as interns just beginning their careers.
