Strut Your Mutt this Saturday

Lafayette's biggest celebration of man's best friend Strut Your Mutt 2012 will take place this Saturday at Parc Sans Souci starting at 9 a.m. to raise funds for local animal shelters and rescue groups.

Lafayette's biggest celebration of man's best friend Strut Your Mutt 2012 will take place this Saturday at Parc Sans Souci starting at 9 a.m.

This all-day dog extravaganza begins with an one-mile scenic dog walk around downtown ending at Parc Sans Souci where local dog lovers will enjoy a slew of canine-themed activities like doggie yoga, complimentary training consultations by Petco and even a doggie kissing booth.

There will also be free dog food and treats along with great human food on hand from vendors like  Naked Pizza, Bon Rapas Wraps, Carpe Diem! and Oh My Taco.

Donations are welcome and all proceeds from the event go towards local animal shelters and rescue groups including the Best Friends Animal Society and the Lafayette Animal Control Center.

This year's Sturt Your Mutt will also welcomes as co-host television's Ian Somerhalder, a native of Louisiana and star of such TV shows as Lost and The Vampire Diaries.

Somerhalder will be raising funds for an animal sanctuary he is planning to build near his hometown of Covington.

Registration for Strut Your Mutt is $30 for adults, $50 for couples and $20 for children 12 and under. Participants can register online by visiting strutyourmutt.org or the day of the event by visiting the on-site registration tent at Parc Sans Souci beginning at 7:30 a.m.

The September issue of the Independent Monthly listed an incorrect time and location for Strut Your Mutt 2012. The Independent regrets the error.
