Agencies offering health screenings at Festivals Acadiens

by Heather Miller

The Louisiana Cultural Economy Foundation Healthcare Initiative has partnered with the Louisiana Crafts Guild to provide free health screenings for musicians and cultural workers at Festivals Acadiens et Creoles. Musicians and cultural workers have the chance to take a break from entertaining the two-stepping crowd at Festivals Acadiens et Creoles the morning of Oct. 14 for free health screenings being offered at the artists' hospitality tent in Girard Park.

Sponsored by the Louisiana Cultural Economy Foundation Healthcare Initiative and the Louisiana Crafts Guild, the free health screenings for both musicians and cultural workers will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 14 during Festivals Acadiens et Creoles. Blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose levels are all included in the screenings.

"[The LCEF initiative] supports the total well-being of our cultural economy workers and their families by facilitating access to affordable primary and preventative healthcare and affordable prescriptions," LCEF says in the release. "Through our Economic Opportunity Fund grant program and Healthcare Initiative, we provide services to keep Louisiana's cultural heritage strong and our outreach includes those working in music, film, culinary arts, performing and visual arts and crafts, design, literary arts, and historic preservation.  Our organization promotes a healthy, vibrant culture in Louisiana by supporting its cultural economy workers and their ability to earn a respectable living and maintain a good quality of life. All Louisiana cultural workers and their families are eligible. There is no fee for assistance."
