HOUMA, La. (AP) - The Courier of Houma will begin digital subscriptions next month.

A notice from publisher Miles Forrest says home-delivery subscribers will automatically get subscriptions to its website and mobile content, without any extra charge. Those subscriptions cost $13.50 a month.

He says starting April 8, people who want only digital content will pay $9.95 a month to access houmatoday.com.

He says the website will expand to include public records such as court filings and real-estate transactions, news and Parade Magazine online.

Forrest says the newspaper cannot continue to charge print subscribers while giving free access to online-only readers. He says that business model is simply not sustainable.
