Well, it's official: Dwyer's is finally open at night! Party Girl is just so excited about being able to get those plate lunches after hours. To celebrate their expansion, Dwyer's guests and family members gathered for dinner and cocktails in the newly renovated café. Dwyer's 20 plus-year history in Lafayette has made it famous for breakfast and plate lunches, and now with a full bar, it's almost too good to be true. The café is also serving margaritas and daiquiris, and its after-dinner oreo shakes are quickly becoming a hit. As part of the renovation, Dwyer's has added new hours; the café will be open from 5-10 p.m. during the week and until midnight on weekends. Now, that's a reason to throw a party!
IberiaBank's always got a party going on, and the newest addition to its list of events, Cup of Joe with Joey, is as clever as it sounds. Public Relations Coordinator Judi Gunn says the bank started off with the name "Cup of Coffee with the Mayor," but Joey Durel liked the "Cup of Joe" play on words so much, it stuck. (Durel sure loves his coffee; the new event is an addition to his monthly "Have a Cup of Coffee with Joey" events at other area locations.) The monthly IberiaBank coffee talks will be informal gatherings with the city-parish prez and some of his staff. Members of the community can attend and fire away their questions over some morning java, of course.
While the Lafayette Community Health Care Clinic's annual meeting does have its serious moments, the colorful characters over there make it lots of fun. Chairman of the Board Nathan Thornton keeps everybody on their toes, and special presentations this year made for an interesting event. Jason Fontenot presented Executive Director Jeanette Alcon with a fistful of cash from his "Pay It Forward" fundraising efforts. For those of you who missed the 2000 movie with Helen Hunt and Kevin Spacey, the idea is to ask people to do a good deed and then ask each one of those people to ask more people, and so on and so on. The clinic's initiative asks that you donate $10 and then ask 10 people to donate $10. "Jason picked it up and immediately went out and collected his first $100," Jeanette says. After the presentation, the meeting's attendees began paying it forward, netting $420 just that evening. "It's an amazing fundraising grass roots event," Jeanette continues. A touching moment of the meeting was the presentation of an oak tree seedling from the clinic grounds to Ann Meleton, in memory of her husband. Earlene Branton was honored as a retiring founding board member, complete with a crown and plaque. Those nonprofits sure know how to pass a good time, y'all!
