NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Both of Louisiana's U.S. senators have voted for a bill designed to head off dramatic increases in flood insurance rates.

The House last week passed the bill, which significantly rewrites a 2012 overhaul of the National Flood Insurance Program.
Legislation two years ago was aimed at easing hundreds of thousands of homeowners off of federally subsidized rates and required extensive updating of the flood maps that are used to set premiums.
But the 2012 law caused anxiety for homeowners along coasts of the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean and in flood plains. Many faced rate increases that were unaffordable.
