Party Girl

Blistering summer temperatures can't stop the always-creative Krewe of Xanadu from showing its Mardi Gras spirit, as its members gathered for one of their socials recently at Grant Street Dancehall. The theme for this free-spirited event, "X Marks the Spot," was inspired by Hollywood's recent infatuation with swashbuckling buccaneers. The party turned into a pirate's dream world, featuring an abundance of beverages that would make Captain Jack Sparrow proud. The freewheeling crowd danced all night to the tunes of the All-Nighters as if they'd just discovered a shipwreck filled with treasure. Wooden legs and eye patches didn't stop these determined pirates from going all out.

Not that I would know, but you definitely have to go all out when you hit the big 6 ' 0! For Wyatt Collins, this milestone turned out extra sweet when his wife Becky decided to throw him a major party. On Saturday, July 21, Wyatt and many of his closest friends really let their hair down and showed younger generations how it's done. Friends, family members and even one of Wyatt's old high school buddies flew in from across the United States to help the birthday "boy" celebrate in style. Everyone enjoyed the bluegrass and gospel music of Fair to Middlin's Anne and Curtis Darrah, and the Collins' family home nearly burst at the seams with food, compadres and fun spirit. We should all be so lucky to keep our friends for a lifetime.
