CB: THAT HORSE DONE LEFT THE BARN
JUL 16 Bobby Jindal's executive order aimed at limiting the state's debt (to what? $3 billion?) is too little too late, blogger CB Forgotson says in this post. Under his tender care, our debt has increased by 30 percent, CB says. That means the governor is just closing the door after the horse is gone, he says.

ST. GEORGE RELEASES NUMBERS BECAUSE PBS IS ABOUT TO
JUL 16 After refusing to release their signature count for six months, the organizers behind the secession effort in Baton Rouge say they think people "deserve" to know what the numbers are, the Advocate reports here. NINE YEARS LATER, STILL STANDING IN LINE
JUL 16 Step away from the fancy board rooms and political press conferences about education in our state and you'll find the situation described by Karran Harper Royal, an education advocate in NOLA who blogs at Education Talk New Orleans. The church is saying the child is forbidden from revealing what she said in confession - a claim that is invalidated by the church's own rules, Gill says.

JUL 16 Bobby Jindal's move to dump Common Core was "a new low," columnist Jim Beam writes in this post. Jindal is using state agencies and departments "for his personal political amibitions," Beam writes, adding that "vindictiveness and pettiness" are the only words to describe the Governor's action.

RETIREMENT BOARD TO REVIEW BENEFIT CHANGE
JUL 16 The state board that oversees State Police retirement will review the bill that added $30K to the state police Superintendent's retirement check. The change was brought to light by blogger Tom Aswell, who writes about the board meeting in this post. He also has additional information here from another blogger, CB Forgotston.

JUL 16 A school district's transfer rates are important, because if you screw them up your drop-outs might look like transfers - meaning your graduation rate looks better than it should. So why would the Recovery School District have a rate that's 100 percent wrong? Blogger Mike Deshotels examines the situation in this post.
