U.S. Attorney Stephanie A Finley's office announced that Dipak Vora, 70, of Baton Rouge will serve 10 months in prison followed by one year of supervised release; Vora was also order to pay a $10,000 fine and will forfeit $514,000 of ill-gotten gains along with the Desperado's property. Vora was aware, according to federal officials, that the club promoted prostitution between its customers and employees.
Also sentenced Thursday were employees Gerald Comeaux, 44, of Carencro (29 months in prison) for distributing cocaine at the club; Elias White, 53, of Lafayette (54 months probation); Heike Slattery, 42, of Carencro (two years probation); Crystal Sampy, 32, of Lafayette (three years probation and a $1,000 fine); and Lydia "Unique" Gauthreaux, 32, of Crowley (three years probation and a $1,000 fine.
Desperado's other primary owner, 56-year-old James Panos, and his wife, 48-year-old Jennifer Panos, both of Broussard, along with eight other defendants, have already pleaded guilty to charges related to the case. The Panoses will be sentenced in November.
