BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Candidates for Louisiana's Nov. 4 election must officially sign up for the ballot this week.
The three-day qualifying period opens Wednesday and runs through Friday. Contenders vying for any office from constable to a seat in Congress have to put up qualifying fees and sign paperwork.
At the top of the ballot are the congressional races, including U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu's bid to hold onto her seat for a fourth term.
The Democratic incumbent has two Republican challengers: U.S. Rep. Bill Cassidy and tea party favorite Rob Maness. Landrieu planned to sign up for her re-election bid Wednesday at the Secretary of State's Office.
Candidates for local municipal races qualify with their parish clerk of court, but congressional candidates and contenders for state offices qualify with the Secretary of State.
