Seriously, dude, we do. And since you‘re ailing, and since you‘ve brought so much joy into our lives with your songwriting and your generous spirit, we thought we‘d throw you a get-better-soon party.

On Friday, Sept. 19 one of your many celebrated bands, Lil‘ Band O‘ Gold, is going to do a Downtown Alive! for the ages. C.C. Adcock has been busting his rump to pull this thing together, and when he and Steve Riley, Dave Ransom, Jockey Etienne, John Troutman, Dickie Landry and Pat Breaux take the stage Friday, well, there ain‘t no stopping the party. In fact, this DTA! is going to go until 10 at Parc Sans Souci.

And the supporting cast for this get-well party? Not too shabby.

Jon Cleary, that badass Englishman by way of New Orleans, will take your seat at the keyboards. We‘d rather have you, but Jon is a worthy stand-in. Sonny Landreth is going to sit in, too, and Lil‘ Buck Sinegal and Tommy McClain and Roddie Romero. Even you‘re old pal and songwriting partner Buddy Flett‘s coming down from Shreveport. Expect a few other members of A-Train, Filé and 20 Years of Trouble to pop up on stage, too.

Your songs have been covered by everyone from Joe Cocker and Percy Sledge to Irma Thomas and Marcia Ball. But the covers of your songs performed Friday will never be treated with more joyous, tender, loving care.

Brother, if you can swing by and soak in some sound that would be great. They‘ll start selling beer at 5:30 and crank up the music at 6. And damn it, David, get better soon.

Warmest regards,
Lafayette
