Cajundome Friday night: The next Shaq, Magic or LeBron?

If history is any indication, basketball fans have a chance to see a future hoops icon this Friday night at the Cajundome. Greg Monroe of Helen Cox high school has cemented his status as the nation’s top high school basketball player by being named the Morgan Wootten National High School Basketball Player of the Year on the McDonald’s All-American team. The 6-foot-10-inch senior forward from Harvey joins some illustrious company with the honor; past recipients of the award include current superstars LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic. Michael Jordan, Shaquille O’Neal and Magic Johnson are also McDonald’s All-American team alums.

Helen Cox plays O. Perry Walker for the state championship Friday night at 8 p.m. in the Cajundome. General admission tickets are $9, with children 2 and under admitted free. For more info, call the Cajundome box office at 265-2104.
