JUN 23 Columnist Jim Beam took some advice from his wife, Jo Ann, to take a break from writing about the legislature with this post - which is about Blaze Starr. Starr, the burlesque star famous for her dalliance with Earl Long, died last week.

NEW DOCUMENTARY ON UPSTAIRS FIRE DEBUTS THIS WEEK
JUN 23 A lot of people never heard of the Upstairs fire, and the reasons why are almost as horrible as the fire itself. In June 1973 someone set fire to a gay bar in the Quarter. A total of 29 people died in the fire, no one was ever prosecuted for the fire, and many bodies were never claimed by victims' families. The new documentary debuts at Prytania Theatre on Wednesday.

BUZZ ON JINDAL STAFFERS: BIG SURPRISE
JUN 23 Bayou Buzz comments upon the huge surprise (not) that some of Bobby Jindal's top staffers left their state offices for "other opportunities." Yeah - like working on a lost cause campaign. But hey, maybe they've never seen podunk Iowa or backwoods New Hampshire. And listen, they're probably just as "qualified" to run a presidential campaign, so it's all good!

ADVOCATE ON IBM'S CANCELLATION
JUN 22 Here's what the Advocate (the LGBT publication, not the Baton Rouge paper) had to say about IBM's cancellation of their big ribbon cutting in Baton Rouge. The company had planned to cut the ribbon on their much-touted BR office Monday -- two days prior to Bobby's big presidential announcement -- but took it off the schedule. IBM has made no secret over their opposition to Bobby's executive "I can hate people all by myself" order.

BOBBY'S VETO OF LIMITS ON HIS GALLIVANTING MONEY
JUN 23 The AP story reporting that Bobby Jindal had vetoed attempts to force him to pay for his own bus ticket to Iowa was no surprise to anybody paying attention here in Louisiana, but maybe people in other states are not as familiar with our governor's crass ambition. Luckily, at least people who read the San Francisco Chronicle will know - because that's where the story is running in this post.
Tuesday's Blogs from the Bog!
Jim Beam quits Baton Rouge for a day to tell us about Blaze Starr; Bobby's veto of limits on his galivanting money makes headlines; and there's a new documentary about the Upstairs fire debuting this week.
