Photo IllustrationBATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Republican U.S. Sen. David Vitter and Democratic state Rep. John Bel Edwards are meeting for their second and final TV debate ahead of Saturday's runoff election for governor.
The race is tighter than was expected months ago, with Vitter under fire for his 2007 prostitution scandal and his campaign tactics. Edwards is hoping that can help him become Louisiana's first Democrat to win statewide office since 2008.
Monday night's debate, sponsored by WVLA-TV, will take place at a Baton Rouge school.
Edwards leads the runoff campaign in fundraising and polling after a strategy built on his military resume and pledges of bipartisanship.
Vitter is hoping to gain ground by drawing policy distinctions with Edwards that he says show the state lawmaker is more liberal than he claims.
