Party Girl couldn’t tell an exacta from a trifecta, but that didn’t stop me from racing on over to Evangeline Downs when I heard that EVD was hosting the Lafayette Convention and Visitors Commission’s summer social, “Night at the Races.” Rooting for “Hell of a Bump” was easy when the horse was sporting a pink number 8 — Party Girl’s favorite color of course — and jockey Gerard Melancon was cute too. Party Girl ran into a couple of ladies from the Junior League, Louisiana Cookin’, representatives of the city of Crowley and Vermilionville, and lots of LCVC members were also present. I am so glad I arrived early to get a seat by the window — I’d hate to not have the best seat in the house. Did you know Evangeline Downs is known for having more horses per race than any other track in the country? The more horses in a race the better the odds of winning, and the larger the payouts too. Feeling lucky that night, Party Girl placed a few humble wagers, and won a small bet that’s going toward my next pair of high heels.

Here are the other lucky gals of the week: Pam Hebert, sales associate with ERA Stirling Properties, who walked away with a $10,000 check for selling a Pelican 10-K property; and sales associate Wendie McCombie with Coldwell Banker Pelican Real Estate, who won the drawing of $2,500. I know you’re wondering, “How can I have luck like these women?” Well, in this case it requires a lot of hard work, too. Coldwell Banker Pelican Real Estate was the muscle behind this promotion, giving away the cash at a drawing held at the City Club at River Ranch in late May. As part of an exclusive marketing campaign known as the Pelican 10-K, the names of those agents who sold Pelican 10-K listings were placed in the drawing for the grand prize of $10,000. This program gives every agent in Acadiana the opportunity to be a part of the drawing by selling one of these 10-K properties. “The Pelican 10-K is the most innovative agent incentive and sales tool in our market,” says Steven Hebert, COO of Coldwell Banker Pelican Real Estate. In addition, the agents with Coldwell Banker Pelican Real Estate who had their sellers participate in the Pelican 10-K Program had their name placed in the drawing for the cash prize of $2,500. Eighteen Acadiana real estate firms were represented in the $10,000 drawing, including Van Eaton & Romero, ERA Stirling, Keller Williams, Century 21 Gateway and Keaty Real Estate, to name a few. The evening was a great success and special congratulations to the winners!
