Old fed courthouse demo plan moving ahead

The Advocate reported today that the only city offices still remaining in the old federal courthouse at the corner of Jefferson and Main streets could be vacated by year’s end, signaling what may be the final hurdle for demolition of the building and subsequent redevelopment of the site.
A plan to demolish the building has been in the works for several years but received renewed attention when council members recently questioned the more than $100,000 in expenses to support the four-story building’s only occupants — the small staff of the city prosecutor’s office. “We could have probably saved the money to tear it down already,” said Councilman Purvis Morrison, who asked the city-parish administration last month to quickly find new space for the city prosecutor.
