The end is nigh: Matalin to stump for Landrieu, tea party targets his sister

Further evidence that these are truly the end times: GOP uber political consultant Mary Matalin, the wife of Democratic operative and omni-present talking head James Carville, will join a constellation of Democratic stars to help raise money for Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu’s bid for the New Orleans mayor seat, according to an article in The Times-Picayune. Also expected at the upcoming $1,000-per-plate Washington fundraiser are Landrieu's sister, U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, and former Louisiana Sens. J. Bennett Johnston and John Breaux.

The T-P is also reporting that the former assistant to President George W. Bush and counselor to former Vice President Dick “Darth Vader” Cheney will host a “Women for Landrieu” coffee meeting next week. Matalin tells the paper she doesn’t recall ever endorsing a Dem but doesn’t see this as “a big deal.”

Meanwhile, Landrieu’s sibling is now in the crosshairs of the TEA Party of Lafayette, which Thursday night held a “Recall Mary Kick-Off” meeting at a Lafayette Italian restaurant. In an e-mail notification of Thursday’s meeting, TPL member Joyce Linde writes, “... I understand that this movement may or not be successful but I encourage you to make an effort to be involved and to discover for yourself.” In fact, the U.S. Constitution provides no mechanism for recalling members of Congress; federal lawmakers can only be expelled through a two-thirds vote of their colleagues.

The group also plans a peaceful protest on Monday in Abbeville where Landrieu is scheduled to attend an event.
