The trade group, which represents independents and majors, understands the potential financial devastation the six-month moratorium on deepwater drilling could wreak on the state and Acadiana's economy, and it's asking those who will be adversely affected to send a video message to decision-makers in Washington.
LOGA contends the moratorium - the result of the Deepwater Horizon explosion and ongoing oil spill in the Gulf - could result in the exodus of all deepwater rigs, affecting the jobs of more than 75,000 people. "Now more than ever, it is imperative that we respond and take a stand as one unified industry," the group writes in its Friday SOS. "In order for us to make a strong statement in response to this decision, we are asking you to create a one-minute video telling President Obama and the people of our country what the offshore moratorium will do to your company, your family, your friends and your community."
LOGA urges participants to explain how the moratorium will hurt their families and businesses and to offer up alternatives to the ban that would address the nation's concerns.
It's seeking one-minute videos from a wide spectrum within the industry: CEOs, VPs, engineers, accountants, company men, rig hands, roustabouts, mud loggers, geologists, landmen, salesmen, owners, operators, technicians, assistants, spouses, children, retirees, elected officials and any others who will be adversely affected by the drilling ban.
