FOR OUR COAST
Construction of the new Acadiana Center for the Arts performance theater is complete. What better way to celebrate than throw a huge, star-studded benefit for Gulf Coast recovery. The benefit seeks to raise awareness and funds that will help address the ongoing crises in our coastal communities. The evening promises to be a memorable one as all performers will play intimate solo or duo acoustic sets.

The roster of performers includes some world class names. English '60s chanteuse and author of the Rolling Stones' "Sister Morphine," Marianne Faithfull will more than likely headline the event as she rarely, if ever, gigs in the Deep South. Songwriter and chick-cult figurehead Ani DiFranco will also play as well as the three musketeers of Louisiana roots rock: Zachary Richard, Sonny Landreth, and C.C. Adcock. "All the artists are donating their time and talents to this incredible evening of music," says Todd Mouton, local arts producer. "This whole thing is a result of a shared vision. Zachary got our fund off the ground in May, C.C. made some amazing connections and Valerie Billeaud Gonsoulin has really pulled folks together in support of this cause and this event. We're all really concerned about our environmental, economic, and cultural wellbeing. This'll be our first musical event in the amazing new AcA theater." All proceeds benefit the Gulf Aid Acadiana Fund at the Community Foundation of Acadiana which will directly support Bayou Grace Community Services in Chauvin and the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana as well as other community organizations supporting coastal fishermen, shrimpers and their families. Tickets are $150 and up. They include a pre/post-event reception at the AcA, starting at 6:30 p.m. Seating is limited to 300 and the show starts at 8 p.m. The For Our Coast happens on Sept. 18 at the Acadiana Center for the Arts.

GRIFFORIFFIC
The one and only Riffs of Griff, everyone's favorite professor, philosopher and hippie wunderkind hits Artmosphere for SIN night on Sept. 20 with his main man Blue Squirrel opening the show.

FIGHTS
Longtime bad boys and dirty dealing dancers of the indie rock genus, FIGHTS bring the uppercase fun rock to dancefloor. Unlike the mull-worthy, contemplative nature of most of the members' previous bands (Dire Wood, Arbor Vitae, Matt Rock & The Powerboxx, Imagine I Am), FIGHTS - don't be fooled by the name - like to keep it fun, fancy and from all reports, very dancey. FIGHTS play Artmosphere on Sept. 17 with New Orleans' indie rock overlords Rotary Downs.

T-ROY
Acadiana's Creosote Cowboy returns to the diamond stage this weekend at Nitetown. Over the past decade Troy Richard has made a name for himself, plowing a mountain of dirt through the eternal catalog of song. He's got a ton of good one's. He's low key. He ain't too flashy. And he never gets on your nerves. That's good enough for me. Troy Richard & The Richard Revue play Nitetown on Sept. 17.

THE RILEY FACTOR
Since his introduction in 1990, Steve Riley® has revolutionized the way food is prepared, the way music sounds and the way an accordion tastes. From writing his first song to inventing the world's first shortening product made entirely out of vegetable oil, Riley has been on an insanely thrilling roll. That formidable roll continues at Grant Street on Sept. 17. Baton Rouge singerlady/songwriter Kirstin Diable & Her Gentlemen open the show.

BLUE MOON
Chili Cold Blood play the blood blues, the corn chowder two-step and the psychotropic skank. They also come from Austin. The Moonhangers play skinny-tie Texas twang for lonesome viceroys. Be at the Blue Moon on Sept. 18.

YE'OLD SCHOOL
Bisbano's plays host to the Ye'Old School Skater Ramp Fundraiser on Sept. 18. Seems the old skaters are trying to raise money to relayer a mini-ramp. The old school collective of The Freetown Hounds will headline the show with their eclectic mix of 80s hardcore and demented R&B. The one-man, lo-fi garage metal band of Septic Laceration will open the show. Old Schoolers, get off your fat butts and go out there..
