Vivaz plays Downtown Alive!

by Dege Legg

New Orleans' Vivaz plays DTA.

They're explosive. They're spicy. They're exciting, mesmerizing and exotic. New Orleans' Vivaz fuses Latin Jazz, Salsa and Caribbean rhythms in a heady stew that gets feet moving and butts grooving. The band is comprised of musicians from different countries including Puerto Rico, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Dominican Republic, and the United States. Its highly original sound is achieved by combining traditional Latin music styles with other forms that pop off like a steaming hot pepper in your brain. It's a mix of hot and tropical, Latin and jazzy, spazzy and classy. Vivaz plays Downtown Alive! tonight, Oct. 1, in downtown Lafayette at Parc Sans Souci.

The show kicks off at 6 p.m.

For 27 years, Downtown Alive! has united community and culture to create a weekly tradition and celebration in Downtown Lafayette every fall and spring, offering great entertainment in the form of free, family-friendly, smoke free, outdoor concerts.
