A Shoe for All Seasons

Spring shoes hit local stores' shelves in February, but transitional styles will put your best foot forward now. By Annie Bares

In south Louisiana, seasons follow no rhyme or reason. Depending on the weather it's perfectly acceptable to wear sandals on Christmas Eve and then boots for New Year's Eve. So with this wacky weather, what exactly is a fashion forward Lafayette lady to do when it comes to picking a pair of shoes?

In south Louisiana, seasons follow no rhyme or reason. Depending on the weather it's perfectly acceptable to wear sandals on Christmas Eve and then boots for New Year's Eve. So with this wacky weather, what exactly is a fashion forward Lafayette lady to do when it comes to picking a pair of shoes? Fortunately, right now area retailers are carrying shoes that transcend traditional seasonal styles.

Shoe La La owner Amy Lewis explains that with spring shoes arriving in February, transitional styles are hot right now. The store features a host of textured wedges and suede heels and a few shoes I didn't know what to call. Are they a modified version of winter's ubiquitous booties? Or maybe a play on the chunky peep toe heel?

"These are actually sandals," Lewis says, referencing a pair of metallic leather Apepazzas that are accented with wood, cork, straps and buckles. The hybrid of the winter bootie style and summer sandal makes for a unique and versatile shoe that's perfect for any chilly morning or warm afternoon.

These shoes of the moment take their cue from masculine styling, a staple in the closets of bold, cool fashionistas. Several pairs were adorned with metallic chains for a rough and tumble look. Detailing is also inspired by intricate oxfords and military combat boots, giving this season's heels a tough, take-no-prisoners feel. Brother's is hip to this transitional trend, with several pairs of Nicole peep toe booties and sandals that are accented with leather, studs and chains (prices for these styles at both stores range from $100-$165).

And these kicks are as wearable as they are versatile. Pair them with the ever-popular and exceedingly comfortable jeggings and sweater for a cozy, casual look. Or for those unseasonably warm days, use them to dress down that flowy, floral dress you've been itching to break out. You can even let your socks show for a grungy, yet refined look.

For dressier occasions, statement shoes will carry you from the winter to spring. Shoe La La carries Poetic License, a raucously English line with sky high heels, bright colors and wild textures that guarantee you will make a statement - and a loud one. You will certainly "Feel the Rhythm" in the appropriately named magenta and electric blue peep toe pumps. They look great with a simple black dress and ensure that you'll be the life of the party, no matter what the season.
