Ruffins to headline LA Fête Thursday

Effervescent New Orleans trumper and band leader brings his Crescent City groove to Lafayette.

New Orleans trumpet player and effervescent band leader Kermit Ruffins will be the featured performer Thursday night at Trynd Ristorante downtown for the Louisiana Cultural Economy Foundation's annual LA Fête, a fundraiser for the nonprofit organization. the LCEF celebrates and supports Louisiana's musicians, chefs, filmmakers, visual artists, craftsmen and others who participate in cultural pursuits that draw tourists and their money to our state each year. The LCEF helps these cultural workers gain access to health care and economic development services. Last year's LA Fête, held at the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans, raised nearly $100,000.

This year's LA Fête will also feature a silent auction of original art, Broadway tickets and more, along with victuals from several premier Lafayette restaurants and specialty cocktails by Tito's Handmade Vodka. Lafayette singer-songwriter Rex Moroux will open the show.

LA Fête will be held from 6-9 p.m. Trynd is located at 116 E. Vermilion St. Tickets are $75 per person and can be purchased in advance through CulturalEconomy.org.
