Call on your civic pride again as yet another vote-early-and-often fan-based competition is under way.

Festival International de Louisiane has been named a finalist in the 2012 About.com World Music Readers' Choice Awards in the Best World Music Festival category.

And so, between now and March 21, Festival fans can vote online here.

Other nom include the Smithsonian Folklife Festival (Washington, D.C.), ¡Globalquerque! (Albuquerque, N.M.), globalFEST (New York, N.Y.), and Festival au Desert (Tombouctou, Mali).

In a similar fan voting contest, Lafayette was named the Best Food City in the USA in the Rand McNally/USA TODAY Best of the Road® Rally.

Similarly, while there's no prize other than bragging rights that come with getting recognized by the readers of one of the most popular websites, Festival International is thrilled to finalist in this reader-driven awards program.

Dana Baker, executive director of Festival International, is thrilled Festival is a finalist in the About.com World Music Reader's Choice Awards.

"It is an honor and a privilege that our fans are so enthusiastic about Festival they nominated us for Best World Music Festival." Baker says. "This award is truly a testament to the importance of our Festival locally, nationally and internationally."

In addition to Festival's nomination, Slavic Soul Party! And Debo Band, two bands scheduled for this year's festival, are finalists for the World Music Trailblazer award.

"The best part about these awards is that it is a celebration of world music and its continued importance in our global society," says Baker.

Celebrate the 26th anniversary of Festival International de Louisiane, April 25-29, in downtown Lafayette.
