Nika is a little warrior in every sense of the word. A living, breathing miracle. Born in Haiti under dire conditions and missing portions of her brain, she has survived despite the estimation of many medical professionals (some who said she had but a 5 percent chance of surviving birth even with the best care). She is in the U.S. on a medical visa with her caregiver Sarah Conque — an Acadiana native who met Nika while working at a missionary in Haiti. The 2-year-old is currently living with Conque in Acadiana recovering from surgery at Women's and Children's Hospital.
