Serendipity may have been responsible for the meeting of Krystal and Jay. Both from a small town in Texas, the couple didn’t cross paths until a mutual friend introduced them. They dated for almost 10 years before Jay popped the question during a Christmas trip to Costa Rica. He’d waited until the second week of the trip and managed to surprise Krystal, but she eventually said “yes” through her tears.
As the original M. A. Patout & Son sugar plantation, Enterprise Plantation was a special spot for Jay’s family to host a wedding and welcome 175 guests. A clear tent hung with chandeliers was set up in front of the main house, and out-of-town guests arrived via shuttle from New Iberia.
Krystal wore a designer sheath-style dress from Martina Liana with graphic lace appliques, pearl and Diamante embellishments and illusion-lace sides and back. Her Bellagio crepe skirt featured lace detailing and beading on its chapel train.
Throughout all of the planning, Jay had only one request: that he and his seven groomsmen wear seersucker suits and hats. The dads got on board too, and all the men sported navy bowties, suspenders and straw skimmer hats with their suits. Bridesmaids were allowed to choose their own dress in any shade of blue.
While musician Sammy Kershaw stole the show at the reception, white tulips, roses and hydrangeas arranged by Flowers by Dallas and tall candelabras set the mood. The strawberry buttercream wedding cake was accented with fresh flowers and touches of blue. iMonelli provided the delicious spread of food.
Krystal’s favorite moment was the first dance with her husband to Kershaw’s “Love of My Life.” “The feeling in the air was one of pure joy, fellowship and celebration,” she says. Kershaw also serenaded the couple with “It’s a Wonderful Life,” and DJ Aaron Lane kept the black and white dancefloor packed all evening.
Guest were also treated to a cigar and scotch lounge area on the grounds and mini Tabasco bottles at each place setting.
Krystal and Jay’s love story continued in Paris, and the couple has now settled in Houston.
