On Sunday, Jan. 2, a Breaux Bridge family lost everything in a house fire. One of the children noticed their father, Brett Melancon’s, truck was on fire under the carport — Melancon attempted to extinguish the flames, however, the gas take exploded and the fire spread to the home.

Melancon and his family escaped the house without injuries but lost all their possessions — including recent Christmas gifts. The family currently has a place to stay with relatives but are looking forward to returning to a home of their own. In the interim, the family is in need of basics like clothing, shoes, furniture, toys for the children and household items.

Below is a list of the ages and sizes of family members — in addition to clothing, the family is also in need of towels, pillows and bedding. Donations are being accepted at Crossroads Church at 150 Verona Dr. in Lafayette (until Friday, Jan. 10 only) from 8:30 A.M. until 5 P.M. Monetary donations are being accepted online through a Crowdtilt fundraising account established on behalf of the family.
