Acadiana is known for its joie de vivre - living life to the fullest. But unfortunately that excessive lifestyle sometimes results in a serious downside - substance abuse or addictions. Now, a new, locally-owned facility, Victory Addiction Recovery Center, is in the works to address this serious problem.

Acadiana is known for its joie de vivre - living life to the fullest. But unfortunately that excessive lifestyle sometimes results in a serious downside - substance abuse or addictions. Now, a new, locally-owned facility, Victory Addiction Recovery Center, is in the works to address this serious problem.
Headed up by David Legendre, Ph.D., a licensed addiction professional with 30 years of experience, Victory Addiction Recovery Center is a 23,000-square-foot facility offering a full array of substance abuse services.
"Victory is a family resource center that is also an outpatient substance abuse facility and inpatient residential treatment facility," Legendre explains. "Victory will not just treat the individual, but will also help the family members address their issues."
Located at 111 Liberty Ave. off of Kaliste Saloom Road, the center has a 22-bed capacity for inpatient residential treatment. "Patients will be able to participate in detoxification and residential care, including individual therapy, group therapy and family therapy," Legendre says. "Victory will also provide continuing care after discharge."
The residential treatment program has a 45-day length of stay. After discharge, individuals will return to the center for weekly group therapy. Patients' families will be intimately involved in the process. "Victory will be able to detoxify individuals on the premises, get their families involved, and be able to treat them all the way to sobriety and beyond" Legendre notes.
Legendre believes that the staff is the key to creating that warm atmosphere in which people recover. He anticipates having 45 employees, including physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed addiction counselors, registered nurses and administrative staff.
Adding to the environment will be comfort food provided by Hub City Diner. "They are going to provide three meals a day, 365 days a year," Legendre says.
In addition to residential treatment, Victory Addiction Recovery Center will provide outpatient services. "Victory outpatient services will allow patients to go to their jobs during that day and treatment at night," Legendre explains. "Patients will get a high-level of intensive outpatient care not only for themselves, but for their family members also."
Besides offering substance abuse programs, Victory Addiction Recovery Center will host support groups, meetings and workshops. "There will also be a collection of outside speakers from all over, speaking to different family issues, that are going to be presented in our auditorium," Legendre says.
Local ownership will be a unique feature that sets this new facility apart from substance abuse centers in the area, according to Legendre.
