Already one of the premier women's health events in Acadiana, the annual Go Red for Women luncheon got a big boost Thursday with the announcement that Lucie Arnaz will be the 2013 keynote speaker. The daughter of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz has been a strong advocate of the Go Red cause since her mother passed away due to complications from a heart condition in 1989.
"Who didn't love Lucy?" said LHC Group Chairman and CEO Keith Myers at a press conference this morning announcing his company's sponsorship of the event. "Heart health is a very personal issue for us," he added. "My wife Ginger lost her father to heart disease. It's the No. 1 killer of women, and over 83 percent of our employees are female. Most of what we do at LHC is to treat people with existing illness. We view this as an opportunity to be preventative."

Lafayette-based LHC Group, a national home health and hospice provider, has signed on as the exclusive cause champion of Go Red for Women in Acadiana. The luncheon and related fundraising events are slated for Thursday, Feb. 7, at 10 a.m. at The Lafayette Hilton Hotel. More information is available here.
