Acadian Religious & Gift Shop celebrated its 50th anniversary with a special reception for customers and friends.

Owned by Art Garrett Jr. and his wife, Marie, the business opened on Feb. 1, 1963, in the South College Shopping Center.

From its original 850-square-foot location the store eventually grew to 4,700 square feet in 2010. After Art's death in 1995, the Garretts' son, Art III, joined the family business. Serving the religious and inspirational needs of Acadiana, the store offers books, children's games and toys and other devotional items.
