Between 40 and 50 SLCC students are signed up to attend the first-ever orientation Thursday of the Ragin' Cajun Bridge Program, says SLCC Public Relations Director Christine Payton.
"This is for students who didn't meet UL's admissions requirements. They'll come to SLCC for the first two years, earn an Associates Degree, and then move over to UL for the next two years for their bachelors," Payton says. "What's unique is these students will get the same benefits as UL students. They'll get an ID card, access to the library, aquatic center, they can participate in the band and live on campus. They'll have all the same opportunities."
The program is similar to the Tiger Bridge Program, an agreement between Baton Rouge Community College and LSU, but is the first of its kind for UL and SLCC, notes Payton.
"It's a great program and just another option for students to earn a degree," adds Payton.
