Retail sales 5.25 percent higher than 2012

September's $509 million in sales pushed Lafayette Parish's nine-month total to $4.4 billion.

Lafayette Parish retail sales of $509 million in September bumped the year-to-date total to $4.4 billion, 5.25 percent more than this time last year. Total retail sales in 2012 were $5.71 billion, a record for the parish.

September sales werer 9.23 percent more than September 2012.

Number crunching by LEDA reveals across-the-board category increases over 2012 numbers. Miscellaneous, autos and apparel have the largest increases compared with 2012 numbers - 14.9 percent, 11.5 percent and 9.8 percent, respectively.

Hotel/motel receipts also continue to outperform 2012 totals. September hotel/motel receipts totaled $6.2 million, putting the year-to-date total 1.64 percent higher than 2012.
