Honoring Acadiana’s Leading Architects and Designers

Noted architect/urban designer Steve Mouzon to keynote this year’s INDesign Awards luncheon.

The 11th annual INDesign Awards luncheon is slated this month to honor winning residential and commercial construction projects completed in 2014.

This year the juried competition saw the highest level of participation in its history. Retired UL architecture professor Eddie Cazayoux, who recently received the College of the Arts SPARK Award for lifetime achievement, judged the architecture entries, and Beth Miller, a professor in Mississippi State University’s College of Architecture, Art and Design, returned to judge the interior design entries. For a virtual tour of all the winners, visit The INDesign Awards Gallery on theind.com, sponsored by Doug Ashy Building Materials.

The program is presented as part of IND Media’s Lecture Series, launched in 2003 and presented annually by IberiaBank. Van Eaton & Romero Real Estate is the legacy supporting sponsor for this lecture. The event’s sustaining sponsor is Paul Michael Company.

This year’s keynote speaker is Steve Mouzon, a co-founder of The New Urban Guild and co-creator of the Katrina Cottage concept in New Orleans, which earned the group a Charter Award by the Congress for the New Urbanism. The Guild’s initiative, Project: Smart Dwelling, set out to redefine the American home as smaller, smarter and more sustainable and was featured in a recent Wall Street Journal report on Green Houses of the Future. A principal of Mouzon Design in South Florida, Mouzon’s house plans have been featured in Southern Living and Coastal Living, and he has designed award-winning traditional neighborhood developments throughout the Gulf Coast and Caribbean. Mouzon is a prolific lecturer and the author of five books, including A Living Tradition: Architecture of The Bahamas and The Original Green. He was presented the Barranco Award for Architecture in 2012.

The event is Thursday, April 16, at the Cajundome Convention Center at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $45 per person or $395 for a table of eight.
