We don’t know if it started with the notorious 50 shades of it, but grey has undoubtedly been growing in recent years. From silvery smoked out hair on young ladies to steely nails on everyone, the trend has no indication of halting. Enter the grey lip. (That’s not a typo.) Grey lipstick.
“My favorite look for this fall is a cat-eye with shimmery, glowy skin and a matte grey lip,” says makeup artist Eden Skye.
Our edgy expert says the cat-eye never goes out of style and we agree.
“Anyone can pull off a cat-eye,” she says. “Matte liquid lipsticks are the big thing this year, and one color that is trending is grey.”
And so, when it comes to finding a grey that works for you, Skye says it’s all about the tone.
“If you have warmer tones, go for one with warmer or more neutral tones. If you have cooler tones in your skin, go for an icy grey,” she says.
When going grey (or any other serious beauty statement), the key is balance — the combo of wild and simple.
“The important thing to remember is to keep the rest of the look more classic. A cat eye and glowy skin make the grey pop,” Skye says. “Confidence is key with this look.” — AJH
