Lafayette Regional Airport set to break record

The Lafayette Regional Airport is on its way to exceed last year’s passenger record as the number of enplanements and deplanements continue to soar for 2015.

The first three quarters of 2015 have yielded 13,342 more passengers at Lafayette Regional Airport than during the same time frame in 2014. The airport saw another record-breaking August in 2015 with 41,944 passengers. Counts for September were very high as well with 40,900 passengers, making September 2015 the third-best September on record for the Lafayette Regional Airport.

Load factors, the number of passengers flying on an airline compared to the number of seats available, continued to rise in September for all carriers. Leading the way was Delta Connection/Atlanta with 86 percent of seats filled, followed by American Eagle/Dallas with 79 percent of seats filled.

Lafayette Regional Airport offers multiple daily nonstop flights to Atlanta, Dallas and Houston.

The airport is planning a $90 million expansion including additional parking and a new terminal, which will be funded by a temporary sales tax voters approved in December that will expire on Nov. 30.
