The Big Easel is back Saturday, April 16 Lafayette’s biggest art show and sale

by Amanda Bedgood

The Town Square in River Ranch will become the area's largest selling spot for one-of-a-kind art pieces on Saturday, April 16, when The Big Easel sets up shop in Lafayette.

More than 60 artists (some local and others with local ties) will be selling art from modern paintings to sculptures, woodwork and even jewelry that falls into the category of art. The event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. consists of artists who have endured a juried process. This unique part of The Big Easel makes the event feel more like a hybrid between a sale and an exhibit with pieces of only the highest quality.

Much of the work comes from beloved area artists like this year's poster artist Brooke Hoogendoorn, along with well-known Acadiana talents like Julie Breaux, Lue Svendson and Leslie Tammariello. The beauty of the Easel is the balance that's infused thanks to the jury process, which brings in new lesser-known names as well as other artists from different regions. The genres are as varied as the artists themselves with work that varies from surreal to rustic to modern or abstract along with beautiful landscapes.
