Raymond Cordova, a longtime senior adviser to former U.S. Sen. John Breaux, died at his residence Oct. 13. He was 75.
Cordova worked for Breaux for three decades, serving 14 years in the U.S. House of Representatives and 16 years in the U.S. Senate.
Before joining Breaux, he was division manager for Jackson Brewing Company in New Orleans for six years and for four years served as administration director of Spencer Business College. During that time, he taught the Mr. Executive course. Early in his life Cordova worked for four years in the men’s department at Abdalla’s Downtown.
He served as a state board member for the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency in New Orleans for four years; past president of the Quarterback Club and Roll on Program for UL; United Way chairman for federal employees and chapter chairman of the American Red Cross in Lafayette
Cordova enjoyed playing tennis and golf, as well as hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Jennifer; daughter Denise Breaux and husband Wally; son Greg and wife Jaquetta; two grandchildren, Chase Breaux and wife Crystal, and Chet Breaux, PhD., and wife Beth; one step-grandchild, Dominque Pizzie; one great grandchild, Lucie Breaux; three half sisters, Florence and husband Brent Castille, Laura Canter, and Roberta and husband Stevie Higginbotham; and one half brother, Robert and wife Roquel Savoy.
A Christian Memorial Mass and funeral service will be held Monday, Oct. 17, at 1 p.m. in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille.
Visitation will be observed at Martin & Castille’s Downtown location Monday from 9 a.m. until time of the Memorial Mass.
