FEMA extends sheltering program for flood victims

by The Associated Press

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has extended a program that allows flood victims in Louisiana to stay in participating hotels temporarily.

Local news organizations report that FEMA officials announced on Monday that the Transitional Sheltering Assistance program has been extended until Dec. 18.

FEMA has been providing assistance through its disaster relief programs for residents affected by severe flooding in August. According to officials, FEMA has been covering the lodging expenses for hotel rooms.

The program was originally set to expire on Oct. 19, before it was pushed back to Nov. 18. The state then requested an additional extension following a lack of rental resources and widespread damage to homes.
