And the Grammy goes to ...

by R. Reese Fuller

BeauSoleil picked up its second Grammy Award last night at the 51st Grammy Awards. The recognition was for the album Live At The 2008 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, available from MunchMix. The category was for the Best Zydeco or Cajun Music Album, which was established last year and was first won by zydeco musician Terrance Simien.

In its nearly 35-year-history, BeauSoleil has garnered 10 Grammy nominations, and in 1997 won the award in the Best Traditional Folk Album category for its album L'amour ou la Folie, making it the first Cajun band to win a Grammy. In January, the band released its latest CD on Yep Roc Records, Alligator Purse.
