Treme ready to roll

by R. Reese Fuller

The pilot for a new HBO television series, Treme, begins shooting in New Orleans on March 9. The series - written by David Simon (The Wire, Homicide: Life on the Street, Generation Kill) and Eric Overmyer (St. Elsewhere, Homicide: Life on the Street, Law & Order, The Wire) - will be set in post-Katrina New Orleans and focus on the city's musicians.

The Hollywood Reporter says actor Steve Zahn (Riding in Cars with Boys, Reality Bites) is in negotiations to play the role of Davis Rogan.
Zahn would play a whip-smart street dancer, local radio DJ, band member and proud New Orleans native with anger issues. The role would showcase Zahn's musical talents as a singer-guitarist.
The real-life Davis Rogan, a New Orleans native and musician, says the fictional character will share his same first name but not his last and that the reference to a "a whip-smart street dancer" is a reference to the second line.

Kim Dickens (Deadwood) is set to co-star with Zahn as his on-again/off-again love interest, according to The Reporter. The cast of Treme already includes Clarke Peters (Lester Freamon in The Wire), Wendell Pierce (Bunk Moreland in The Wire) and Khandi Alexander (Doctor Alexx Woods on CSI: Miami). Shooting is expected to last through March.
