The 2009 Acadiana Symphony Designer ShowHouse Opens This Weekend

Get the full story on Louisiana’s first certified ‘green home’ next week in an exclusive to Acadiana Living.

On Friday morning, the Good Morning Acadiana crew will broadcast live from the 2009 Designer ShowHouse, offering the first sneak peek into one of the most important annual fundraising initiatives for The Acadiana Symphony Orchestra. Next week, you’ll get the full story in Acadiana Living, which will be inserted into The Independent Weekly and will include a four-color photo tour of the home. All in all, it should be just enough to entice you to visit this beautiful home and support our great symphony and conservatory.

Sixteen of the area’s top designers (listed in the sidebar) have collaborated on this year’s project, which will be open for public tours each Thursday-Sunday beginning this weekend (Oct. 10) and running through Oct. 25. Public tours are 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., and group tours may be scheduled on Mondays-Wednesdays each week. Lunch will be served daily in The Veranda Café with catering provided by a la carte.

Builders Bryan and Sylvia McLain, who coordinate the ShowHouse project each year, are especially proud that this year’s home earned the first national ‘green home’ certification in Louisiana. “It meets the National Green Building Standards of the American National Standards Institute,” notes Bryan, “which means it uses less energy, water and natural resources; is environmentally safe and was built with efficient and sometimes reclaimed materials.” The home is nestled among the oaks at 304 Opus One Drive next to the lake in Vintage Park Development. The style is described as “Tuscan with unique Creole flair.”

Another special feature this year? The home is pre-sold. “Kenneth and Anna Cefalu have already purchased the home,” explains Sylvia, “and we are grateful that they have agreed to postpone their move-in date to help us and the group of designers raise money for the Symphony.”

In addition to the tours, there are several ticketed special events on the ShowHouse calendar, including an opening gala, a masque ball, a jazz brunch and fashion show and a casual evening grilling event plus four decorator seminars. For more information, visit the Symphony Web site at www.acadianasymphony.org or call 232-4277. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
