The Performing Arts Society of Acadiana (PASA) celebrates its 20th Anniversary today at 11:00 a.m. with a street renaming by Lafayette Consolidated Government. What was formerly known as Auditorium Drive, a street that runs alongside the Heymann Center, will now be magically transformed into the wondrous and ostensibly dreamlike sounding “PASA Place.” Simply repeating the street name to one's own self now brings to mind a vaudevillian super-vision of theatrical suprises where colorful performers swing on trapeze ropes toward operatic high notes and chocolate caramel fountains flow freely around a well-mannered, white gloved audience graciously clapping for the parade of fantastical events.
Founded in 1988, the Performing Arts Society of Acadiana is a non-profit organization that presents live entertainment at the Heymann Performing Arts Center and other local venues, creates in-school arts activities, offers daytime performances for students and initiates outreach programs such as PASA PLUS and Play It Again, Lafayette. PASA presents annual performances of opera, dance, drama and a variety of musical acts.
The street renaming will take place at the corner of Auditorium Drive and South College Road. The event, which is open to the public, will include an official proclamation by Lafayette City-Parish President Joey Durel as well as a brief presentation and reception.
